De Bock's Brushstrokes
"Théophile de Bock is my distant forefather and a prominent painter in the Hague school, known for their sea sides and typically Dutch grey skies. He lived with several other artists and organised parties where fellow Hague School painters came. For the housewarming, he hung a sign above the door: "Hulde aan de ridders van den grijzen nevel" (glory to the knights of the grey sky). This piece is about that sign, stepping back in time to when the words on it were still being written."
